Iber Lengua Terrasvogels strikes in midget-golf and softball
Dutch
The third day of the Cup Winners Cup Tournament in Haarlem started for Iber Lengua Terrasvogels of course with a joined breakfast that was followed by a licht practice and lunch.
In the afternoon, the players and staffmembers spent on the midget-golfcourse, where some remarkable results were accomplished.
Aimee Murch eventually had the best score with 47 points!
Hereafter, there was time to enjoy a cappuccino or hot chocolate at Café Brasserie 'De Wildeman', one of the ball-sponsors of Terrasvogels.
In the late afternoon, there was diner at the clubhouse on Sportpark 'De Elta', followed by the travel to the Nol Houtkamp Sportpark for the match-up against Hoboken Pioneers from Belgium.
It became a very one-sided game, which lasted one hour and 15 minutes, but with Terrasvogels hitting for almost one hour!
In the first at bat, the Belgian oppopent was able to prevent runs from being scored.
Linda Hoenderdos led off with a single and Christina Rolla moments later hit a long single (with one out), but then two outs followed.
Lauren Supak, the Terrasvogels pick-up player, who plays in the First Division for Amsterdam Pirates, ended the first at bat quickly and unharmed.
She caught a line drive by the lead-off batter, then struckout the next and saw the third out being made on a grounder towards third base.
In the second inning, Terrasvogels opened the score and crossed home plate three times.
The bases were loaded when Dana Horeman walked and Annemiek van Riessen and Eva de Bruin both singled.
A single by Femke Haage enabled Lisa Waasdorp (the pinch-runner for Dana) to score the first run.
Pioneers then turned a nice double play on a hit by Linda, but a single by Shannah van der Kaaij then resulted in two runs en increased the lead to 3-0.
So far, Pioneers could keep up, but in the next inning, Terrasvogels was hitting for more than 30 minutes, collected 13 basehits and scored 15 runs!
Terrasvogels had some hard, line drive hits and was just unstoppable, making it difficult for the Belgian defense to eliminate players.
Kate Gentile batted three times in this at bat, while Eva, Femke and Shannah all had two basehits.
There were four triples in this at bat, which came from the bats of Eva, Linda, Shannah and Kate.
Linda and Shannah hit their triples 'back-to-back'.
It all started in this inning when an error was made on a grounder by Kate.
A single by Solange Starrenburg and a fielder's choice on a grounder by Dana then loaded the bases.
A single by Annemiek then produced the first of 15 runs in this inning.
Next, Eva cleared the bases with a triple and moments later scored herself on a single by Femke.
Hereafter, Linda and Shannah belted their triple, then finally the Belgians were able to register the first out, after the first eight batters had reached base safely.
In the meantime, Pioners already had changed their Dutch starting pitcher Gaby Hutten (who played in the Dutch big league for HCAW and Twins).
With one out, Kate hit her triple, then Solange walked.
With runners on first and third base, four consecutive basehits were produced, hit by Kim Donkers (who replaced Dana earlier in this inning as pinch-runner), pinch-hitter Mariëlle Vleugels, Eva and Femke, which accounted for another four runs and made it a 15-0 score.
But it didn't end there.
An error on a grounder by Linda led to the next run and a single by Shannah added two more runs to make it 18-0.
Christina then hit another single, but a force out and flyout made an end to the long at bat.
It was then up to Lauren to complete the game.
In the second inning, the American started with two strikeouts, but an error then led to the first Belgian baserunner.
A basehit followed (the lone one for the Belgians), then a flyout ended the at bat.
In the third inning, Lauren retired the side again, including two strikeouts.
An so, after three innings, this 'game' ended, as the mercy-rule came into effect due to the run-difference.
On Wednesday, Terrasvogels continues the event with a game against Viladecans from Spain.
